The new phone app is a nightmare. I hate it so much that I went through the process of switching to Apple, though have reverted to my Fenix, as the Ultra/2 is the only Apple Watch with multi band satellites, and it's too big on my female wrist. So: I used to use the app several times a day to track progress, dive into stats etc. The new layout makes this much more difficult. Instead of a comprehensive list view, we now have really big tiles with lots of empty space. Aesthetically horrible, and a pain to extract info, involving much scrolling. Sleep tracking takes an eternity to load every morning now. You have to go sideways to get the info that was there at a glance before the update. My neighbour was saying she also hates the app and can no longer easily track her menstrual cycle. I personally know a couple of people who have actioned their threats to switch to another brand of watch. I feel Garmin has been very high handed over this whole scenario: ignoring beta testers who didn't like the app; forcing the upgrade (I'm an iOS user so don't have the option to reinstall the previous version). I get that Garmin may face difficulties giving an option to revert to the old look, and that they've doubtless paid big bucks for the new design, but I really think they've shot themselves in the foot with this. Of course many people dislike change (I personally actually enjoy change!) but I don't think this issue is going to go away, and meanwhile customers will be going elsewhere. I've actually contacted Garmin complaining, and they advised sending in the suggestion of reverting to the previous design or similar, which I've done and would suggest others do. I think the bottom line is that the feel-good factor of using the app has gone (and that sort of thing matters more than you might think). Meanwhile ... are you listening Garmin?

I can get the Edge 1040 brand new for 485….. Karoo 3 or 1040? My rides are normally 3-6 hours max.

For a third the price, my lezyne has 4 times the battery life. All the useless stuff like full colour screens and touch really suck up the juice

Great review, and just few hours after the product was launched to the market. For me the poor battery duration is a deal breaker, and Sram knows it. No matter what you have the best software, companion app, and product design, but if battery doesn't last more than reasonable time (13 hrs. is a joke still), I don't see Garmin's and Wahoo's heavy user jumping to the other side of the river. The best example is precisely Garmin, with a hard to die computer, with a crappy Tamagoshi kind of software, the worst companion app ever, but amazing battery life, that's why most people stick with Garmin. When Sram comes up with a 25+ hrs. duration battery life, then Karoo maybe considered a reliable computer IMHO I have a Garmin 530 and most likely will jump to the 1040, and passing the 530 on to my wife or daughter

Not compatible with Shimano for 500 bucks? No can do. I'm not sure what group set I'll go for next so I need a bike computer that works universally. Shame. Looks like they were on to something great here but as I said. I'm not letting my bike computer dictate my group set choice

With a better battery life this would be a no brainer. But 10-12 hours is not enough. I already had longer days. :/

Total fail that the new companion app doesn't work with old Karoo models. Way to support early adopters and your biggest fans SRAM.

I'd like to repeat the headline comment from a person commenting on Play Store, " ..a hot pile of stinking garbage.." Sums up my opinion of the change. I've sourced the APK for the previous App version and installed it, turned off auto-updates. How did this change get past a final review?

The new version doesn't even work. I only want yesterday's activities and the last 7 days summary showing on the home page. Yesterday's activities show up, but under last 7 days I have the message "no data from the past week" when I've actually done about 10 activities. Also, if I try to reset home I only have 1 option to select, that being track my training. I am unable to reset home. What a mess. Change for the sake of it and change for the worse. Can we have a revert option please. I'm already thinking of trying the Coros Pace 3. This is going to tip it in favour of Coros.

Great watch no doubt, but not worth an upgrade at that price point. If I would be in need of a new one, than it would be my number one pick, but the original Vertix still serves me well, until the real Gen 3 I will wait.
